OK, thanks to all !!! Seriously, I just made a steam room in my bathroom with eucalyptus, thyme, lemon, lavendar and got the shower, kettle and face steamer going, my dog relaxed immediately and didn't want to come out, this REALLY helped, WOW !!!

My 2 dogs and 2 cats are all sick right now. $600 so far to the vet. ..maybe more pending. I just figured out that my 2 dogs..bichons may have caught the Kennel cough from being at my groomers...she is also a breeder.

I brought home a rescue kitten from the pet store while they were getting their hair cut...so I think I brought home more than a new pet, because my older cat got very ill with a fever and conjunctivitus .

All kritters are on antibiotics and the cats are on eye anti'viral drops. It feels like the HiNi flu has invaded our home!

My advice to anyone reading here is to be careful of the groomers you take your pets to. ..and isolate any new kittens when you bring them home.

I didn't know about the unpasturised honey, but gave it to my hacking dog as I filled the bath tub up for a bubble bath. It works! Also...Robitussin DM helps.

Good luck all.. Kennel Cough is very upsetting to the owner and I'm sure very irritating to the pet. Poor Skippy has been suffering for 3 days now!

I was gave 2 of my dogs the kennel cough vaccine on Monday as a requirement for a class they are going to. My 21 lb Min Schnauzer since the day after has had diarrhea, been lethargic, had a lot of gas, and hasn't been as interested in food as she usually is. (All her vitals and her temp are normal.) Is this a reaction to the vaccine? If so will it go away on its own, or do I need to take her back to the vet?

For dogs under 5 lbs - you can dose them for a body weight of 5 lbs - which makes the math a lot easier... Enjoy your new pup!

What if the dog is an 8 wk. old 2 lb. puppy? I just adopted him from a local shelter. He is playful and eats well but occasionally hacks and when he sleeps I sometimes see tiny clear bubbles on his nose.

Would his dosage be 1/10 of the 20 lbs. dose?

My dog Duke was just diagnosed with kennel cough today. I was horrified as I listened to him hacking away all night long. He's started on antibiotics and a cough tablet, let's hope that works. I wish I would've known to try some natural solutions, before shelling out so much at the vet!! But he's worth it!

Since your vet has diagnosed your dog with respiratory allergies it would seem more appropriate to treat the allergy. The remedies mentioned for kennel cough may be soothing and provide some relief since the upper airways are inflamed. There is no downside to trying them since I don’t foresee any negative side effects.

You can start with half the recommended dose of coconut oil and slowly increase to bowel tolerance – or stay at the lower amount using one-half your dog’s body weight. This is a healthy fat and should not be a problem for dogs with prior episodes of pancreatitis. If you are using processed safflower oil (sold at grocery stores) get rid of that stuff! Review the article I wrote; Good Fat, Bad Fat and the Myth of Low Fat Diets: Your Dog Needs Fat!

Hyssop would be a good herb to try for respiratory problems, since your dog’s condition has not alarmed your vet.

My dog (Husky mix, about 10years old) has a chronic cough...seems to be triggered by post nasal drip or chest congestion. He hacks and then brings up phlem, multiple times a day. My local vet has diagnosed this as allergies.
I ordered the Hyssop tincture (getting pills down is tough and he weighs 110lbs so he would need a LOT of capsules) and I plan to try the honey-coconut oil combo...I have 2 questions:
1) is this a good plan for his chronic wet cough?
2) he has had one bout of pancreatitis (after a big meal of raw chicken backs) so how much coconut oil is safe to feed him? I put a tablespoon of safflower or olive oil in his food daily but the recommended dose for coconut oil is much higher for him (at 110 lbs).
Please advise...and thanks for the natural treatments for cough : )!
