Your vet needs to determine what type of allergy your dog is suffering from: fleas, hay fever (called Atopy in the dog) and food intolerances are the most common problems for allergic dogs. Until you get the correct diagnosis - treatment will not be effective. Work with your vet or get a second opinion from a veterinary dermatologist.

Also, I wrote an ebook available on this site -"How to Solve the Mystery of Your Itchy Dog" - which has been very helpful to my readers.

My 3 1/2 year old shiba inu Bella is losing most of her fur. She is constantly chewing at herself and I cannot see a flea or other pest with the naked eye. I've tried multitudes of diets, shampoos, etc. and am at a total loss. I hear allergies are the culprit, but for 3 years have not been able to determine WHICH allergies. Protein, grass, pesticides, preservatives in food, wheat, etc. etc.

Is it microscopic pests I cannot see? Are there tests to determine what if anything she is allergic to? Are there tests to show what her vitamin/mineral/blood criteria are and if she's deficient?

She looks so unhealthy and does not have a lot of energy. Not sure what to do...

I already have Dr. Terifaj's Vaccine Book - and it is excellent! As one of the winners of this contest, I requested The Itchy Dog book this time around. As usual, it exceeded all expectations and is incredibly thorough, well written, and easy to absorb.

If you have an itchy dog, this book will not only explain exactly what the irritant may be - but it will also guide you through exactly what to do to fix this miserable problem!

Thanks, Dr. Terifaj!
